Leaving Stress Behind PDF Print E-mail

Leaving the stresses of daily life behind and becoming calm and relaxed does not come easily to many of us. Yet, we must learn to relax and lower our stress in order to function at our best in anything we do.

There are a variety of ways to find a relaxed state and therefore greatly increase the effectiveness of any exercise or activity we take part in. The following is a brief description of just one relaxation exercises you can do to achieve a calm relaxed state before and after exercise or even during your work day:

Shrug: Stand with your feet hips' width apart.
Knees slightly bent, or sit upright in a firm chair.
Inhale and exhale through your nose.
As you exhale imagine your shoulders being relaxed and let your body become loose.
As you inhale raise your shoulders to your ears as high as you can and hold for 5 seconds.
Continue to breathe.
Exhale and drop your shoulders.
Inhale and relax. As you exhale let your shoulders and arms relax even more.
