Three parts of a healthy lifestyle include exercise, good nutrition, and rest/relaxation. Exercise: 15-30 minutes of vigorous activity at least 3 times a week helps you to have a healthier heart, toned muscles, and reduces excess weight. Nutrition: reduce fat intake especially saturated fats, cholesterol, sugar, and salt in your diet. Snack on fresh fruits and vegetables if you need something between meals.
Relaxation: the reduction of physiological arousal through actions such as abdominal breathing or muscle relaxation techniques. Relaxation requires practice and dedication to recondition the mind to become quiet and peaceful. True relaxation is not achieved through distracting or diverting behavior, such as the use of tobacco products, alcohol, or participating in a competitive sport after work. Although these practices may be part of stress management or coping techniques, they can not replace true relaxation. Short term relaxation: daily sessions of at least 10 minutes dedicated to relaxation techniques and deep breathing. Long term relaxation: planning of longer amounts of time (a day or a few days) to relax and do something enjoyable such as reading a book or gardening. Set short term as well as long term goals to attain your healthier lifestyle.
