Can getting a foot massage improve your health?
Reflexology, an ancient art practiced by all cultures, is a science based on the premise that there are zones and reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all glands, organs, parts and systems of the body.
The physical act of applying pressure using thumb, finger and hand techniques to these reflex areas results in the reduction of stress which promotes physiological changes in the body.
Science has proven that stimulation of certain points in the body stops pain and helps heal illness. Reflex points are energy junctions that relay and reinforce energy along meridian lines of the body, passing energy toward the organs and nervous system. Although reflexology uses the same reflex points as accupuncture, reflexology is a non-invasive technique.
Reflexology is a natural tranquilizer, acccording to Mildred Carter, author of Body Reflexology Healing at Your Fingertips. She says taking time to give yourself a complete reflexology workout allows nature to relax your entire system. Study the charts and make sure you are comfortable. Choose a time when you will not be interrupted.
When applying these techniques, don't become impatient. It has probably taken your body a long time to get into it's present condition and it may take some time for nature to correct it, although at times improvement happens so quickly it seems like a miracle.
Reflexology can stimulate digestion, dissolve stress and tension, treat coughs and colds, cure headaches, relieve backpain, and much more.
